2021 was the year that Cody founded and organized the Queensbridge Free Art Workshops. This project was created in response to the lack of public art programming in public schools as well as what the community center offers for its senior community members. With the help of local community organizers like SugaRay Marston, the art workshops focused on a project to design a flag for Queensbridge by the Queensbridge community. To gather this information the participants of the art workshops sketched drawings, paintings, and even made a series of collection boxes that we installed on a fence near where the art workshops take place. Each collection box has a prompt relative to the Queensbridge flag project, and provided writing utensils and paper for participants to anonymously offer their ideas for the design of the Queensbridge Flag. This project is still in progress.

The 2021 Queensbridge Free Art Workshops occurred on Friday’s from June through October 2021 from 12-4pm, on the Hill outside of the Queensbridge community center. They were funded in part by the Queens Council on the Arts: New Works Grant.
