The free art workshops from the 2021 season took place on Fridays from 12-4 pm. Due to the school and summer camp schedules the art workshops would become very busy later in the day when the younger people were free from their prior commitments.

Honorina proudly shows off one of her amazing colored pencil drawings of trees and flowers. She was one of the most prolific artists to participate in the workshops. Honorina often took extra paper home with her to continue to make artwork, which she then would share with the group the next session.

Lashawn ‘SugaRay” Marston is a filmmaker, actor, activist and artist. He is also an organizer of the Free Art Workshops. Here he is making an expressive painting.

Ms. Clovia Thomas, a poet, and painter, with her gorgeous painting on wood, and an even brighter smile.
Ms. Thomas contributed multiple poems to be featured in “The Community Builds a Flag For Queensbridge” zine/ workbook.

Akil was amongst our youngest particpating artists. Here he is playing with different ways to assemble the suggestion boxes before we installed them to the signs.

Ms. Thomas shows off the zine and workbook we made that archived the free art workshops, has empty pages for residents to draw and design the queensbridge flag. Ms. Thomas also submitted four poems that are featured in the book.

November 19, 2021 We held an exhibition and celebration for the art workshops and all of the mutual aid projects that took place on “the hill” this past year. Organizers like Nini Burgess were awarded by SugaRay. Nini also helped organize the workshops. In this photo the Free Store Astoria, The People’s Bodega, and The Rolling Library all gave out free clothes and books in mutual aid solidarity. Frontline Queens also was there with free meals.
